Checklist for when you arrive in the UK
As an international student, traveling all the way to the UK can be quite stressful...so we’ve made a small checklist below for what you need to do when you reach and a few safety tips to help you out!
Prior to coming to the UK (quick details on your application process):
-
In order to apply for your Tier 4 application, you need to receive a CAS statement from your university.
-
After receiving your CAS, you can start your Tier 4 application - there are a lot of details to be filled out so take your time and make sure you don’t make any mistakes - in the details of previous travel, you would need to write every place you have visited in the last 10 years (if you have visited the same place twice or more, you still need to write them as separate visits specifying the duration of your travel).
-
After completing your application, you need to pay for your IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge) to ensure you have adequate health insurance when you enter the country.
-
The fee for your IHS is £300 per year for Tier 4 applicants (for medicine, £300* 5 or 6 depending on the number of years your course is).
-
After paying your IHS, you have to pay for your visa application.
-
After getting your visa you have 30 days to enter the country and collect your BRP (for 2020 entry, there is a 90 day vignette instead).
-
Prior to coming to the UK, you also need to collect a "Letter of Good Conduct" from your local police department and submit it to the university as your DBS check. DBS is required for medicine as you may come in contact with vulnerable patients. Keep in mind the DBS is only valid for a few month!
